The 4 R's: Reformation, Part 1

Reformation: A refining, transformational process of more fully and rightfully representing Jesus, the Kingdom of God and the whole Word of God in service, worship and doctrine.

Within the realm of our Faith, Reformation is probably the most needed and the most resisted. It is needed continuously as every move, awakening, revival/renewal (what have you) that I have studied has brought forth certain truths that had been obscured, neglected or twisted by previous generations.

But then those who pioneered the movement seek to become firmly established (based on these illuminations), a rigidity then sets in ("fluidity" stops and the desire for continuing the quest for reformation stops as well), and thus institutions (and "organized religion") are established. Desire to maintain the power-base, the denomination/structure and hierarchy (most often subtly) causes a resistance to any form of reformation to develop. This has lead to a distortion to the recovered illuminations and/or the obscuring of others.

I am thoroughly convinced that we are in the beginnings of a fresh reformation that is shaking everything to its core. This Reformation contains elements of transformation and transition (as all reformations inevitably will). With that being said, perhaps I should change my original wording on Reformation???

One MAJOR marker for this Reformation is this:

Papa God is clearing away all that is obscuring the Foundation (and as I have said elsewhere, that Foundation is a Person; His name is Jesus).

Empire, nationalism, patriotism, religion, doctrine, sacred-cows, ICOR (Institutionalized Church, Organized Religion), politics, economics . . . even Monday Night Football (GASP! I had to throw that one in there just to lighten this a wee-bit) are being shaken . . . ANYTHING that sets itself up as an obstacle, “obscurence”, or substitute to what God has done for us through Jesus and His Love for us that calls us to Relationship with Him.

In Part 2 of Reformation I will attempt to list some of the other road-markers that are appearing on this Journey . . .

Hey dude thanks for the kudos on my more personal blog post....... eesh! Had to laugh on your Shack stuff...... Loved the book... but had a few reservations on any "band wagoning" - resisted the Jabez prayer too...... till i got 2 copies for our wedding... "The Shack" was more of a reminder to me.... more than anything else... and a bit of a redeemed version of Richard Bach's 2nd book..... "Illusions" ......
he and Tom Robbin's were my postmodern fav. with respect to the "church" - small c there!- at least in the 80's.
That and Steve Taylor's music.. keith green (with out the Jewish angst) and Larry Norman.. add to that a bit of Warnkee and you know i'm a cynic at a soulish level. So guess i should come with "warning labels"- with Dennis Miller like quips and rants.
I think people fear Deconstruction more than they fear Reformation.... Reformation is a nice tidy version of deconstructing some type-set of theologically messed up relational DNA.
Now i need some nice warm single malt........
blessings bro..... ( i like Chai.. but after 10 pm... it's a bit harder to settle 'me chockels")

That's the risks that come along with refor/decon; the risk of it becoming "bandwagon" and/or "the in thing" which can lead to the consumer mindset of "been there, done that, got the t-sheet, coffee mug and video".
But misuse and/or abuse does not negate original intent. Reformation/Deconstruction (what have you. Just remember one of the laws of physics; Nature abhors a vacuum. If you deconstruct something, don't leave a blank space. You don't know what will try to fill the void. As has been said by some: We only deconstruct in order to build anew . . .)
As for "The Shack", I figured that some will say "What's the big deal? Doesn't everyone know that's how Papa is?" The answer is "No."
And that's why I am thankful for it being written because it brings things out that need to be talked about. And it opens the doors for folks like yourself that say "Yeah! Papa is always speaking!"
Enjoy yer wee-dram and sweet dreams.
